Workshop: Let’s Get Hands-on with AWS Graviton2-based Amazon EC2 Instances

Oct 21

15:30 - 16:45

AWS Graviton processors are custom-built by Amazon Web Services using 64-bit Arm Neoverse cores. During this workshop, we'll guide you to setup AWS Graviton2-based Amazon EC2 Instances and deploy container-based workloads with multi-architecture support. You will learn how to benefit from AWS managed services running on AWS Graviton2 processors, and how to profile and debug your applications using the features provided by the AWS Nitro hypervisor. After this session, you'll have a practical knowledge of how to design, build and run applications using the AWS Graviton2 processors. There are some additional system requirements for this session. If you're interested in taking part, log into your DevSummit profile and save the workshop session to your agenda. Once saved, we will send you further instructions. Please note, we’re limiting space in each workshop session to ensure a quality experience for every participant, so hurry and reserve your seat for this hands-on experience. If you don't manage to reserve a hands-on spot, you can still watch all workshops live.

Arduino and Raspberry Pi: Better Together

Oct 20

18:30 - 18:55

Arduino and Raspberry Pi are two of the biggest platforms across the entire industry. Until the start of 2021 when Raspberry Pi launched their first microcontroller product, the RP2040, they both focused on different areas of the market; Raspberry Pi focused on Cortex-A microprocessor-based devices, whereas Arduino have been at the forefront of Cortex-M microcontroller development. Join this virtual campfire conversation with Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino, and Eben Upton, Founder of Raspberry Pi, to hear how they worked together to bring different RP2040-based devices to the market; what they think the future of microcontroller development looks like; and how developers can adapt to these changes. Plus, you'll have the chance to ask the founders your questions.

Considerations for Developing an Environment for Data Engineering in Virtual Reality

Oct 19

18:00 - 18:30

Currently, the U.S. Government is going through a large-scale data transformation effort, where the GSA playbook is guiding all agencies to make their processes data-driven with the help of emerging technologies. To address concerns about algorithm sharing, AI adoption, and vendor lock-in, the NASA Langley Research Center Digital Transformation Group has developed the Environment for Data Engineering in Virtual Reality (EnDEVR), a data science ecosystem that allows users to command and investigate customizable data analyses from a VR environment. The system has been evaluated in the Oculus Rift S and Quest environments, two popular VR systems powered by the Arm architecture. Current and future development will employ several AI capabilities to guide research and automation within the environment and to facilitate algorithm sharing. In this talk, we will discuss the results of an initial ethical investigation and recommended considerations for the use of AI within the system.

Workshop: Containers Over-The-Air: Building Your First Edge AI Device the Easy Way!

Oct 21

15:30 - 16:45

In this workshop, I will teach attendees hands-on how to easily build a fully functional edge AI device, using a Jetson Nano, containers, and the balenacloud dashboard. We will go through the process in a thorough, classroom-style workflow, and I will teach attendees all of the basics needed to get the device built and online, performing object detection using an attached camera. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a fully operational computer vision / edge AI device. High-Performance Computing that’s Earth Friendly

Oct 21

15:00 - 15:30

The demand for computing resources is continually increasing while at the same time so is the need for more sustainable, more efficient technology. These are often at odds with one another. The game industry has always pushed the envelope on performance and making every cycle count. The methods they use to achieve high-performance can result in substantial gains in computing efficiency which could be applied to general computing to decrease energy consumption in data centers and devices. This talk explains how computing languages and program architecture impact efficiency and energy use, and how Unity’s DOTS (Data-Oriented Technology Stack) yields high-performance computing that is also energy efficient.

Buckle Up. The Software-defined Car is Here

Oct 20

16:00 - 17:00

Compute performance in cars used to be equated to the number of processors inside. But auto makers have embraced a more centralized computing strategy, replacing scores of microcontrollers and microprocessors with fewer but more powerful SoCs. With these zonal processors, the car can truly become software-defined. Four industry experts offer their insights into this transformation, and share the challenges and opportunities that come with bringing more flexible, pervasive intelligence to cars.
